ENVIRONMENT | The 2020 Sustainability Report
The Group consolidates its sustainability path by reconfirming and deepening its commitment to economic and environmental responsibility, protection and enhancement of human resources and product innovation, pillars of Giorgetti's sustainable development, with a view to continuous improvement
The Giorgetti Group, with its two brands Giorgetti and Battaglia, leaders in the excellence of Made in Italy design, presents its Sustainability Report with reference to the year 2020.
Starting in 2019, the Group has launched its sustainability path by publishing its first Report through which it intends to share with its Stakeholders the result of its performance in terms of economic, social and environmental responsibility.
The Group will reconfirm its commitment to sustainability in 2020 by developing and adopting its own Sustainability Plan, in order to guide and support its activities along the new path it has taken, with the aim of making a significant contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations by 2030.
“Despite the difficulties faced during 2020, Giorgetti has persevered on its path of sustainability, testifying to the strategic role that responsibility, in all its forms, plays in safeguarding business continuity. In line with the objectives defined last year, which led to the drafting and publication of the first sustainability report, an indispensable tool for communicating with its stakeholders, the Group has consolidated and deepened its commitments on the issues it considers most material, which are described in the following pages. It is precisely the attitude towards continuous improvement that has enabled the Giorgetti Group to face an extraordinary year like 2020 with proactivity and dynamism. The renewal that guides Giorgetti’s philosophy and ensures its longevity allows us to look to the future with perspective” commented Giovanni del Vecchio, Giorgetti Group CEO.
Four thematic areas (Economic and Governance Responsibility, Social Responsibility, Environmental Responsibility and Product Responsibility) guide the structure of the Plan.
Political and Governance Responsibility is translated into a timely response to the pandemic crisis situation that allowed Giorgetti to continue to create value.
The Group's economic and financial performance has contributed to the local economy by directing almost 97% of expenditure towards local suppliers, and has enabled it to confirm and implement the strategic investments planned for the 2020 financial year without modifying its medium-term strategic objectives.
The Giorgetti Group has reconfirmed its frontline commitment to the protection of people, the true driving force of the company and the custodians of the heritage, values and skills that have allowed the continuity of the Group's tradition and the achievement of business success.
"Throughout its 123-year history, Giorgetti has made renewal, customer focus and, above all, responsibility towards its people and the communities in which it operates, the cornerstones of its identity in the world. Thanks to these qualities, the Group has been able to respond to the complexities of healthcare circumstances by dedicating itself, first and foremost, to protecting its people, adapting its working methods to the needs of its human capital, and guaranteeing the proper functioning of the entire production chain," added Giovanni del Vecchio.
Giorgetti is not only committed on a daily basis to respecting the fundamental values of diversity, inclusion and equality, fighting all forms of discrimination and violence in the workplace, but also to protecting the level of employment (up by 11.8% in 2020) and contributing to the development of young talent in the area in which it operates. Some 19% of new hires are under 30.
In terms of Environmental Responsibility, Giorgetti continues to monitor the company's most impactful activities with the aim of improving its performance. In 2020, energy consumption attributable to Giorgetti Group activities fell by 11.2% compared to the previous year. In addition, 46.9 tonnes of CO2 were avoided by self-produced energy from renewable sources, 9.4% fewer emissions than in 2019.
Giorgetti also continues to concretely reduce its environmental impact through the careful selection and monitoring of its suppliers.
Finally, sustainability also means product durability, and in this sense Giorgetti has always been committed to creating Responsible Products that can last over time and become the legacy of subsequent generations. Products capable of combining the highest cabinet-making tradition with the use of the most advanced technologies, through continuous research and increasing investments in quality and innovation.
